Research Partnerships Build the Service Field in Africa
This is a joint special issue of the University of Johannesburg's The sociable Work Practitioner-Researcher and the University of Zimbabwe's Journal of sociable Development in Africa that study on VOSESA's Five-Country Cross-National Study on Civic Service and Volunteering in SADC.
The study is peculiarly relevant in the linguistic context of regionalisation and globalization where civic service is emerging as a growth social phenomenon and establishment. It thus contributes to edifice the cognition base about service in SADC (for more info on the study, see the Research page).
The articles in this special issue demonstrate how different actors in the part are co-operating to computer address the human development challenges in the five state - Republic of Botswana, Malawi, South Africa, Zambia and Republic of Zimbabwe. The service initiatives reported on contribute to development knowledge and good pattern, and demonstrate the role that service and volunteering can play in promoting the accomplishment of subject social development goals and precedence.
The way that service and volunteering is pickings in the part is consistent with the key objectives of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) which aims to achieve regional cooperation, eradicate poorness and reach high degree of sociable and human development.
The study was conducted through a unique North-South partnership between a non-governmental organisation, academics and higher education establishment that resulted in the pooling of expertness and resources. Partners included the Centre for sociable Development in Africa at the University of Johannesburg, the Global Service Institute at the University of Washington D.C. In St Louis, Show Me State, USA, military volunteer and Service Enquiry Southern Africa (VOSESA) based in Johannesburg, and universities of Republic of Botswana, Malawi and Republic of Zimbabwe.
